The Jinteki-Oni, known also as the half-oni, half-demon, or half-men, are the oldest race to share Rosuto-Shima with mankind. Though modern thinkers have tried their best to forget the invasions of the monstrous Oni that defined the history of Rosuto-Shima, they are unable to do so when looking at the lasting results of these occurrences. The first appearance of the Jinteki-Oni on Rosuto-Shima was due to intercourse between a particular Oni general and several village women, many of whom did not survive the pregnancy. How this cross breeding occurred will likely remain a mystery, but the result is a fascinating combination of human and Oni characteristics.
Though no Oni have made themselves available for study (and scholars may well debate whether or not these savage murderers should qualify as an intelligent race), the Oni characteristics of the Jinteki-Oni are easily defined due to their lack of commonality with their Rosuto-Shiman cousins. Most of the Jinteki-Oni of a single clan (of which there are six) have features represented by their clan names. The Three Horns, for example, have three large horns, generally protruding from their faces or foreheads. The Red Skins have bright red pigmentation, due to the strange amount of melanin found in their skin. The Black Skins have ebony pigmentation, and have heavier melanin content in their skin cells than any other race seen on Rosuto-Shima. The Big Bones tend to grow to nearly giant sizes, eight feet and taller. The Man's Shadow appear mostly human, but often have short horns or a frog-like mouth the reveal their Oni heritage. Members of the Dark Father clan are predominantly Oni in appearance; their fearsome visages are dominated by twisted limbs, clawed hands, prehensile tails, tusks, or extra eyes.
Despite these qualities, in nature and personality, the Jinteki-Oni are more peaceful than most Rosuto-Shimans, and are devoted to a philosophy that respects the natural world. Whether this is the result of biological factors or environmental stimuli, the Jinteki-Oni seem to have little in common with their Oni forbearers in temperament.
