The most bizarre of all the people of Rosuto-Shima are the Clockwork Ronin. Their bodies are made of metal and steel and have no organic components, and yet, they have the same sentience and intelligence as individuals of flesh and blood. Their reflexes function like those of a Rosuto-Shiman, including physical reactions to stimuli, although one could argue that these are just a hair faster than those of a Rosuto-Shiman.
Despite the lack of organic components and the lack of necessity for eating, drinking, and other functions necessary for biological life, these people exhibit act in every way like living creatures. The superstitious say that spirits are bound within the metal casing by a dark magic; others theorize that the technology designed to create the Clockwork Ronin made them self-aware. If either of these answers is true, the Clockwork Ronin themselves have not revealed it.
